The desert teaches: respect

Respect is a universal concept, due not only to men, but also to the environment around us and all the living beings that inhabit it. Unfortunately, we often forget the importance of taking care of what we have been given: rampant selfishness makes us forget that nature is an asset that is our responsibility to protect and preserve. It is important to teach children from an early age to love others and animals, belonging to any species. The nomads of the desert are a great example: they love their land and respect it greatly. I will always remember the words of the leader of the boscimane village when he said good-bye to me at the start of my crossing the Kalabari: “ Remember that if you love and respect this desert and its inhabitats, you will be loved and respected in return.” And so it was.
